Week 12 - Reflection
Week 12 Reflection
I have learnt so much about design, for example I’ve learnt just how important it is too actually manage your time well (which I have never and probably will never be, much good at), I’ve also learned how about much design can change the world. Design is ridiculously important for a myriad of reasons, for branding and their effectiveness, for making a statement about the world and stressing different issues (like I saw with Wes Wilson’s work and his comment on the Vietnam War).
I learnt so many new skills, like using some of the Adobe suite. This included so many softwares I have never dared to venture into before so it was a struggle figuring out how to actually use the softwares that i was unfamiliar with, such as Indesign and Illustrator. I especially struggled with illustrator as i was used to Photoshop so not many of the features that was very normal and standard to me in photoshop, carried over well into Illustrator, which make the whole experience a painful new learning curve that has me struggling quite a lot with how to make certain shapes and curves (like the ones I so ‘expertly’ crafted in my monogram).
My booklet really helped me to see the process of designing things. I like making paper booklets, so this is a really useful skill to learn and now possess, as I now have the ability to adapt and change my booklets easily, and to spread them out so I know exactly what pages will be where. The booklet also helped me see the impact text can have on a page, or a series of pages and how even the slightest of changes in the text formatting can bring an entirely new meaning to it.
I struggled a lot with time management too. Having to do most of these posts at home, whilst I have work and two other subjects that are homework heavy made it very difficult to allocate my time well due to uni, work life and my social life. This has ended up costing me as I am quite stressed at the time of writing this all down, however I know that I will be able to hand in everything and it will be done to a quality I am happy with.
Into the future, having learnt so much about the precise and clean nature of design, will uplift my art making and allow me to break rules I never thought of breaking before, uplifting my artwork into a standard that will lift my art up.
There is so many things I’ve learnt and while I can’t write them all down, they will all carry through my future designing and art making. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and designing, even through the times I wanted to throw Adobe out the window.
