  Week 12 Reflection I have learnt so much about design, for example I’ve learnt just how important it is too actually manage your time well (which I have never and probably will never be, much good at), I’ve also learned how about much design can change the world. Design is ridiculously important for a myriad of reasons, for branding and their effectiveness, for making a statement about the world and stressing different issues (like I saw with Wes Wilson’s work and his comment on the Vietnam War).  I learnt so many new skills, like using some of the Adobe suite. This included so many softwares I have never dared to venture into before so it was a struggle figuring out how to actually use the softwares that i was unfamiliar with, such as Indesign and Illustrator. I especially struggled with illustrator as i was used to Photoshop so not many of the features that was very normal and standard to me in photoshop, carried over well into Illustrator, which make the whole experienc...

  Monograms Monograms originated in Ancient Greece as a way to mark coins and personal belongings. This practice was typically reserved for the richer side of Ancient Greek people including dignitaries and other authority figures. Monograms during that time, became a signifier for where something came from, who was in charge and more.  On Ancient Greek coins especially, there would be what we would call a ‘mint mark’. This displays where the coin was made, what power figure was in charge of the mint, and even what year it was all with the use of monograms. As thousands upon thousands of these monograms where produced, for coins alone, this signifies the sheer importance of the monogram, what it was used for and how effective it was to convey information across small areas, like the surface of a coin.  Over time monograms became a signifier of personal belongings, taking off in the Middle Ages to signify a persons piece of art, sculpture even furniture and textiles before ...

EVERYBODY THINKS THEY ARE RIGHT -  Stefan Sagmeister I like this quote. It’s short, sharp and it draws you in.  I find this quote cynical. It too me draws attention to how everyone is kinda on their own high horse and thinks they know everything, knows what’s right and as such, when i think in reality, only God himself can say i am right because he knows what’s right and what’s wrong.  Originally the quote was ‘Everybody always thinks they are right’ However I short ended it by taking out the always as i felt it disrupted the quote a bit, as well as just not having enough room for it on my note.  This quote actually originates from an artwork, this artwork consists of six large inflatable white, angry monkeys that are hold a word of the phrase each. Poster Reflection Week 4  IM starting to combine elements of both constructivism and Postmodernism into one. Or at the very least that’s the direction I’m heading. I have a very angular sort of design, playing with parallel lines and how they can be formatted but also thinking about the colour palette.  At the moment I’m leaning towards darker colours and ones quite opposite to the ones that the Constructivists used to venture more into the postmodernism side id like to incorporate. This postmodernist inspiration also shows through the letters in the world REALM (which was the word i chose), as the letterforms are quite jagged. This mostly includes browns and dark greens. I’m starting with a very dark green-brown background and ashy green kind of lines to contrast. I’m no quite sure how i feel about the ashy green yet.  I’m experimenting with putting the word near the top,  although I have decided I would like to place the word and adjacent parallel lines in a diagon...

Wes Wilson Wilson, W 1965, Are We Next? , poster, W Wilson, viewed 28 May 2024 Available at <  https://www.wes-wilson.com/more-posters.html > His very first poster  was a protest against America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Featuring the American flag motif and a giant swastika, its a bold statement against how involved the Us was getting in the war.  A self published poster, it displays the need for equal respect among all people. This poster caused a massive stir at an anti war rally, people said it was too much and they questioned his design choices. However this bold poster ended up introducing Wilson to professional poster design, starting his illustrious career. Wilson primarily worked in poster design for music, places and events, having started designing for a small company right at the beginning of the San Francisco jazz  and poetry beat transformation.
